The idea of progress – the thought that mankind has advanced in the past, is now advancing, and will inevitably advance in the foreseeable future – consists in believing that the world can become better in terms of art, science, technology, liberty and quality of life. It obviously implies change, an evolution from an older system with old traditions to a newer system which is not necessarily embraced by all. It turns out that progress has a doubtful future. Indeed, the rhythm of progress seems to have accelerated over the last few decades and the technological breakthroughs and scientific developments are causing some people to voice their concerns over the consequences of such development. We therefore ask ourselves: Is progress a blessing or a curse?
